Equality, culture and conflicts of rights in South Africa

Mother-to-child transmission is by far the largest source of HIV infection in children below the age of 15. This report presents the results of research conducted at a pilot site in the Eastern Cape into the use of resources associated with the implementation of a PMTCT (prevention of mother-to-child transmission) programme.

The four case studies highlighted in this book deal with the issue of traditional leaders in post-independence governance. Contributing to the local government debate in South Africa, this book investigates, compares and analyses the role of traditional leaders in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Nigeria.
